The Long Beach Humane Society's mission is to fight for the humane and ethical treatment of all animals and to shelter, feed and provide veterinary care to felines we rescue or those who are surrendered to us. Once under our care, our goal is to find our cats and kittens good homes/parents who can fulfill their dreams of living with love and affection, health and well-being, safety and compassion.

Our Featured Kitty of the Month is Nana!

You can't imagine how life saving Nana has been. Nana is only about 1 1/2 yrs old and she came to us with her five babies. We found an abandoned kitten around the same age and she took her in as one of her own. All six were adopted and Nana was due to be spayed when four little lost ones came in without a momma! Nana to the rescue! She has been caring for them as her very own for three weeks now. But Nana didn't stop there. Three more babies were not doing so well without a momma and she perked them right up! She cleaned them and nursed them too! Now, all 7 are up for adoption but mostly Nana is so deserving of a loving home. She has done her part to help in our care and we can't let her down now. She has gone above and beyond and she needs a home of her own now. Please come by, meet Nana, pet her, let that gentle meow of hers melt your heart into saying, we have room for just one more.

Update: Nana has taken in yet another baby. A tabby kitten found in someone's yard, abandoned, cold, alone, frightened & hungry! That was Saturday 5/18, the next day, she is fed, clean, warm, happily playing with her new found siblings. Nana to the rescue once again.

ADOPT & ADD ANOTHER MEMBER TO YOUR FAMILY

Thinking of adopting but afraid to go into "ONE OF THOSE SHELTERS" for fear of seeing all the sad pets there?

There's lots of "free time" all day long and more love to give than you can imagine! Please come see and experience the magic and joy our cats have found in their home. Who knows - you may just take home one or two for yourself. There's nothing like having a furry bundle of your own!

Many of our kittens are first raised by our volunteer foster parents. Some of our foster families have small children and dogs (in addition to other cats!), so the kittens are raised to be comfortable in all types of home environments. We have found that providing kittens with exposure early to children and other pets makes for happy, friendly and well-adjusted cats.

"Now's just not the right time for me, but what can I do to help?"

We understand, and we'd love your support! Why not become a sponsor?
Your generosity as a sponsor can go a long way in helping us provide food, shelter, veterinary care and medication to our kittens and cats while they await adoption. Please see below how your dollars can help!

Maddie's Fund: The Pet Rescue Foundation The Long Beach Humane Society proudly participates in Maddie's Pet Rescue Project. As a Maddie's Pet Partner, we have helped to save the lives of countless animals that might otherwise have been euthanized. Please consider making ADOPTION your first and only option when thinking about getting a pet.

Great News!

Our adoptions come with a low-cost Spay/Neuter Certificate. This means you pay only $30.00 to a participating veterinarian when you have your pet spay/neutered. Ask one of our Adoption Counselors for details.

When looking for a pet, why not consider one of our adult cats?

Remember, we can't slow the process of time, so that kitten you love today, will grow to be an adult. One of the advantages we often find in adopting an adult cat is that their personality and temperament is already established.

Our loveable adult cats find their way to us because their owners are no longer able to care for them. Having memories of what it was like to be in a home and be loved, these cats sit and wait daily looking for their pet parent to return for them. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond their owner's control, that is no longer an option. Speaking from personal experience, providing a home to one of these adult cats is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself as these cats are among the most loving, loyal and especially grateful cats you could ever find.

PURINA'S PETS FOR PEOPLE SENIOR ADOPTION PROGRAM

Studies have shown that pet companionship may actually improve senior citizen health and their outlook on life. Lowered blood pressure and a reduction in stress are among the benefits of pet ownership.

If you are 60 years or older and you adopt an Adult Cat or a Cat with Special Needs Purina's Pets for People Senior Adoption Program will assist in your adoption costs. Ask one of our Adoption Counselors for details.
